The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Expressway (KK Line) will hold “GINZA SKY WALK 2024,” an event from May 4 to 6 to stop automobile traffic on the KK Line running through central Tokyo and experience a future pedestrian space.
The project is part of the “Tokyo Sky Corridor” project, which aims to close the KK Line connecting Yurakucho, Kyobashi, Ginza, and Shinbashi and transform it into a promenade surrounded by greenery.
This year’s event will feature a 2-km-long walk along the KK Line, with a view of the city center, a performance stage by the Tokyo Metropolitan Brass Band and Tokyo Fire Department Band, a marché of local products, next-generation mobility test rides, a children’s playground, and art experiences over the three-day period.
Special programs include running and yoga on the expressway in the morning, and a night event to view the city’s nightscape from the expressway.
Participation in the “GINZA SKY WALK 2024” (free of charge) requires advance registration on the official website, while participation in the morning and evening “Special Programs” (charged) requires advance registration by lottery on the official website.
On the day of the event, the Tokyo Expressway (KK line) at the venue and the Metropolitan Expressway Yaesu line connecting to the KK line will be closed to vehicular traffic (from midnight on May 4 to 24 on May 6).
