The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on April 24 in Abuja, the capital of the country, for a loan of up to 15 billion yen for “Emergency Assistance for Food Security.
This project aims to reform the agricultural sector system, improve access to agricultural inputs for small and marginal farmers, and strengthen the domestic production system of agricultural inputs through private sector participation in Nigeria, which is affected by the food security crisis caused by soaring global prices of energy and agricultural inputs, This will contribute to building a strong agricultural base and improving food and nutrition security, and will contribute to Goal 2 (zero hunger) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The project is co-financed with the African Development Bank (loan amount: $134 million), and will be implemented in close collaboration with the African Development Bank.
