NAVITIME Japan has added a new function to its “Traffic Jam Information Map by NAVITIME” application that displays the time required between interchanges, taking into account traffic jam information, and expanded the data for the “Traffic Jam Live Camera” function that shows points nationwide where traffic jams are likely to occur.
The time required between interchanges is a function that displays the estimated time required to pass between interchanges on an expressway “traffic jam map”. Real-time traffic jam information is taken into account, and can be used for planning and rerouting before an outing.
In addition to the traffic and congestion information that has been provided up to now, the degree of congestion is also displayed to help drivers decide whether they should continue through the traffic jam in front of them or exit to a public road.
Traffic jam live cameras will be available in October 2023, and will allow users to check images from live cameras installed on major roads prone to traffic congestion, mainly in the Kanto and Kansai areas, from within the application.
Since this function is used three times more than the still-image live camera function previously provided, video data from 11 locations, mainly in the Kanto region, including the Uenohara Interchange on the Chuo Expressway and the Higashimatsuyama Interchange on the Kan-etsu Expressway, will be added.
While the Traffic Jam Map allows users to check whether or not there is a traffic jam, the Traffic Jam Live Camera provides a more accurate and intuitive understanding of how congested the traffic actually is through near real-time video data.
In addition, as a countermeasure against Golden Week traffic congestion, a “20% discount campaign for new enrollment in the Annual Course” is being offered until May 6. New enrollment in the Premium Course (annual fee) will receive a 20% discount from the regular ¥3,500 to ¥2,800.
