NEXCO East Japan will open the Kitanomaki construction site on the Joetsu Expressway to the public on June 16 during the rock mass removal work.
The open house will be divided into two sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, with 18 groups of 36 people being accepted for each session (if there are too many applicants, they will be selected by lottery). Applications are accepted via NEXCO East Japan’s special application form.
The Kitanomaki construction project involves the removal of a 70-meter (currently 50-meter) rock mass from the upper part of the Kitanomaki Tunnel in Gunma Prefecture, which is located between the Matsuida Myogi IC and the Usui Karuizawa IC. Visitors will be able to ride on the construction monorail and observe the excavation by cranes and other heavy machinery.
