Marugoto Railway (a joint venture between JR East and Satoyume) will open a restaurant and sauna at the Marugoto Railway Hotel “Satologue” (1 Tanasawa, Okutama-cho, Nishitama-gun, Tokyo) on May 16.
The “Marugoto Hotel” is a regional revitalization project that turns the entire railway line into a hotel by renovating unmanned station buildings into reception areas and lobbies, and vacant houses into guest rooms, in cooperation with local governments, local residents, and businesses along the line.
Satologue, the core facility of the project, is located a 15-minute walk from Kosato Station on the JR Ome Line (Tokyo Adventure Line) and a 20-minute walk from Hatonosu Station. From Hatonosu Station, visitors will be able to tour the area using HELLO CYCLING, an electrically power assisted bicycle.
The accommodation building will be preceded by “TOKIRO,” a restaurant in a renovated old wooden house, and “FUKISUI,” a wood-fired sauna in a reconstructed concrete warehouse.
The “Toki-Kuji” restaurant, which will open as “a restaurant that tells the story of time in Okutama,” will have a large window on the garden side, and on either side of the counter seats will be tables with seating and semi-private rooms along the flow of the Tama River.
Guests will be able to enjoy “rail-line gastronomy,” which expresses the climate, history, and culture of the areas along the rail line through French-based cuisine using ingredients from Okutama and Ome, while enjoying a view of the rich natural surroundings.
The wood-fired sauna “Kazekisui” in Okutama, which has a long history of prosperity in the forestry industry, is equipped with a water bath drawn from the river, a wax bath, and an outdoor air bath.
After the sauna, the lounge on the first floor of the restaurant offers original drinks made with herbs from the garden and other ingredients, as well as an optional Yamame teriyaki burger. Books on the theme of “people’s hometowns” selected by the Okutama Library, which is active in Okutama, will also be available.
The landscaping on the site includes a water supply system and fish tanks that functioned when the fish farm was operated, and the use of running water drawn from the river, as well as the creation of hand-piled wasabi fields, a biotope, and fields with the cooperation of wasabi farmers in Okutama.
For those who make reservations for the morning meal sessions, a staff member who lives in the area will give a guided tour of the field for 15 minutes starting at 11:00 a.m. before the meal.
