In response to a request from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for assistance for flood damage in northern Afghanistan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide emergency relief supplies as follows.

The flooding that occurred in northern Afghanistan in early May has caused extensive human and material damage in the affected areas.
Damage as of May 14 (announced by UN agencies, etc.)
Deaths: 315
Injuries: more than 2,200
Affected houses: more than 8,975
Damage to infrastructure: 7 public schools completely destroyed and 19 schools damaged; 50 bridges and 30 hydroelectric dams also damaged
Damage to medical facilities and public health situation: services were interrupted in 11 medical facilities
Cultivated land: 10,200 acres of orchards affected, 2,260 livestock killed
