Weathernews: This year’s rainy season is later and shorter than normal; watch for heavy rainfall disasters in late June and early July

On May 15, Weathernews released its 2024 “View of the Beginning and End of the Rainy Season.

The rainy season is expected to begin in early June in southern Kyushu and end in mid-June in other areas, about one week later than normal nationwide. On the other hand, the end of the rainy season is expected to be on par with the normal, indicating that the rainy season will tend to be shorter.

Peak rainfall is expected in Okinawa/Amami from the end of May to mid-June, from Kyushu to Kanto Koshin from late June to early July, and in Hokuriku and Tohoku from early July. Although total rainfall is expected to be normal nationwide, heavy rainfall is possible in all areas, and caution is advised against rising rivers, flooding of houses, and landslides.
