JR Tokai and JR West announced that they will operate the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi bullet trains (between Tokyo and Hakata) with “all reserved seats (no nonreserved seats)” during the 10-day Bon vacation period from August 9 to 18, 2024.
The measure to make all seats on all Nozomi trains reserved during the three major peak periods (GW, Obon, and year-end and New Year holidays) was started from the year-end and New Year holidays in FY2023. By eliminating the non-reserved seats normally provided in cars 1-3, the number of reserved seats in ordinary cars will increase by approximately 30% per train, allowing more passengers to make reservations and be seated, and to travel without having to wait long hours at platforms and other locations. As a result, reservations and purchases of reserved seats will be mandatory for passengers boarding the Nozomi during the applicable period.
As in the past, the “Nozomi 12 Train Timetable” will be used between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, and more trains will directly connect to the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines. The “EX Service” allows passengers to reserve reserved seats up to one year in advance, allowing them to make reservations and purchases in advance for the upcoming Bon and summer vacations.
In addition, “Hikari,” “Kodama,” “Mizuho,” and “Sakura” trains other than “Nozomi” will have unreserved seats as usual.
