Tokyu Corporation announced the July 8 opening date of its large-scale complex, Shibuya AXE (2-17-1 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), and also disclosed the tenants scheduled to move in.
Shibuya AXE will have 23 floors above ground and three floors below, with retail on the 1st through 4th floors, offices on the 5th through 23rd floors, and a parking garage in the basement. Located in the area leading from the east exit of Shibuya Station toward Aoyama, the building aims to connect the pedestrian network between the two districts. The company plans to create a lively scene by opening plazas in Shibuya and Aoyama and arranging large-scale visions and artworks in each area.
Fifteen tenants are scheduled to open on the first through fourth floors, with restaurants, taverns, and bars serving Hawaiian, Thai, and other international cuisines on the first through third floors. The first floor will also feature a Seven-Eleven convenience store and a Resona Bank ATM, while the fourth floor will be home to Health Check, a comprehensive health checkup center with separate floors for men and women, scheduled to open in August.
The artworks to be exhibited in the plaza on the Aoyama side will be changed two to three times a year, the first of which will be “The Tank” by French artist Jean-Julien. The title of the work, which means “water tank,” depicts a mermaid-like creature that lives with fish and other aquatic creatures.
