The “Tsuzawa Yotaka Andon Festival” will be held on June 7 and 8 in Oyabe City, Toyama Prefecture, and will feature special spectator seats with food and drink for “Hare no Hi no Gottsuo (feast on a special day) and enjoy a powerful andon clash special spectator seats.
Only the June 8 portion of the event will be available, and it is limited to 50 seats. Reservations for the special viewing seats and art workshops are now on sale.
For the first time, spectator seats will be provided on the second floor of the “Tsuzawa Andon Fureai Kaikan” in the center of the area where the clashes will take place. Visitors will be able to enjoy the power of the “Kenka Yoru Kou Andon” (Fighting Night High Andon) from the same vantage point as the giant 7m high x 12m long dandongs that clash violently one against the other. The fee is 10,400 yen.
The hall will serve festival-only boxed lunches made with ingredients from Oyabe City, alcoholic and soft drinks including Toyama Prefecture’s locally brewed sake, and snacks made from local products.
After the meal, an “Interpreter-Guided Town Walk” will be held to learn about the Tsuzawa Yataka Andon Festival and the Tsuzawa area of Oyabe City (multi-lingual service). The tour will include a visit to a Shinto shrine and a walk along the dandong parade route.
The first “Re-Use Andon Workshop” will also be held, where visitors can make their own unique “Andon Art” by reusing parts of the broken and damaged dandons from the collision. The workshop can be booked not only as a set with special admission seats (12,000 yen), but also as a stand-alone event, with the stand-alone fee being 3,000 yen per person. Reservations can also be made on the day of the event.
