Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been delivered to the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) in the Federative Republic of Brazil, in response to torrential rain damage.
The emergency relief supplies for the Federal Republic of Brazil arrived in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, on May 22, and were delivered at 8:00 a.m. (local time) on May 25 at the Brasilia Air Force Base. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Teiji Hayashi, Ambassador of Japan to Brazil, and Mr. Issei Aoki, Deputy Director General of JICA’s Brazil Office.
At the handover ceremony, Minister Solas expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance, and stated that the supplies would be delivered immediately after the ceremony to several affected areas, including the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, which was severely damaged. In response, Ambassador Hayashi expressed his hope that the damage caused by the torrential rains will be resolved as soon as possible and that the water purifiers that were donated will be useful to those affected by the disaster.
The relief supplies provided this time will be delivered to the victims by the government of the country.
