On May 27, Gifu Prefecture began accepting applications for “Gifu Travel Coins with Premium” for overnight travelers to the prefecture.
Gifu Tabi Coins” are electronic tourist coupons (electronic points) that can be used to purchase souvenirs, food and beverages at participating stores during a trip. Using the dedicated application (Android/iOS version), visitors can pay with the points they have earned (1 point = 1 yen).
This campaign includes a premium of 20% points on the purchase price of Gifu Travel Coins, priced at 10,000 yen per unit. The breakdown of the 12,000 yen per unit points, including the premium amount (2,000 yen), is 7,000 yen worth of lodging-only points (can be used only to pay for lodging) + 5,000 yen worth of regular points (can be used at souvenir stores and restaurants).
Each person can apply for up to three units, which will save up to 6,000 yen. If there are too many applications, a lottery will be held (total of 15,000 units sold).
