The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) of up to 1.83 billion yen with the government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi on May 28 for the “Medical Equipment Improvement Project at the National Cancer Hospital.
In Vietnam, lifestyle changes associated with economic growth have led to a shift from infectious to non-communicable diseases as the leading cause of death. The proportion of deaths from non-communicable diseases is increasing year by year, accounting for about 80% of all deaths in 2020, and the cancer incidence rate in Vietnam has tripled over the past 30 years (source: Ministry of Health statistics).
