Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. and East Japan Railway Company announced on May 30 that they have decided on “BLUE FRONT SHIBAURA” as the name of the district for the Shibaura Project, a specific project under the National Strategic Special Area Plan that they are jointly promoting.
The Hamamatsucho Building (1-1-1 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo) will be reconstructed to create twin towers with a height of approximately 230 m. Construction of Building S is scheduled for completion in February 2025, and Building N in fiscal 2030. The area is approximately 4.7 hectares, with a total floor area of approximately 550,000m2.
The upper floors will house Fairmont Tokyo, Japan’s first luxury hotel with both ocean and city views (opening in 2025), the middle floors will house offices with the Sky Lounge, a common area with a terrace offering open views of the sky and sea, and the lower floors will house a commercial facility with about 40 stores, mainly food and beverage outlets, as well as residences. The lower levels will be occupied by commercial facilities and residences, and the project will be a large-scale complex development spanning approximately 10 years.
The name of the district derives from the idea of “connecting Tokyo’s bay area. Taking advantage of its location near the Hinode Pier, one of Tokyo’s leading boat transport terminals, and the Shibaura Canal, which runs through the Shibaura area, the project aims to revitalize boat transport, which is attracting attention as a new means of transportation, and to create a lively waterfront area.
