Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto (7 Seikanji Reizan-cho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto) began accepting reservations on June 5 on its official website in preparation for its opening on July 26.
Located within a 10-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kodai-dera Temple, the hotel is on the former site of Hotel Ryozen, and has a total of 52 guest rooms of 6 types designed based on the concept of “yugen” (a mysterious, ethereal feeling). Eight of the 52 rooms are equipped with hot spring baths, and all rooms have hiba wood bathtubs and tatami mats.
The hotel is the first international brand hotel in the Gion and Higashiyama area to have a natural hot spring source, which can be used in the public baths, some guest rooms, and each treatment room in the spa.
The site, with a difference in elevation of approximately 12 meters, will have three gardens and a bamboo grove, and the stone walls surrounding the Hotel Ryozen site will be preserved as much as possible to carry on the history of the hotel. In addition, a Noh Stage, designed by Kengo Kuma, will be built to embody the ethereal atmosphere of the Noh theater.
In preparation for the opening, the hotel will also launch a limited-time-only lodging package starting at 200,000 yen per night per room for two people until September 1. The plan includes breakfast, dinner or lunch (advance reservation), hotel credit of 15,000 yen per room per night, free snacks and refreshments from the minibar, a 20% discount voucher for future visits, special hotel gift, and private hire car between Kyoto Station and the hotel.
