The City of Sapporo will start a verification experiment of touch-sensitive payment at all 46 stations of the Sapporo Municipal Subway in the spring of 2025. The experiment will be conducted as part of the “Sapporo DX Lab,” in collaboration with Sapporo City Transportation Bureau, Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC.
By touching a touch-sensitive card (credit/debit/prepaid) or a smart phone with a card set to it to the dedicated reader at the automatic ticket gate, passengers will be able to go directly through the ticket gate and board the train. Usage history can be checked on the “Q-move” website.
The brands supported are Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay, with Mastercard to be added in due course.
