On June 10, Geo Technologies launched GeoQuest, an application that allows users to poach by posting photos of streets based on a theme.
The company has been providing map data for car navigation systems and operating the MapFan map service for consumers, and has also been offering the Trima poikai application since 2020. GeoQuest is an application developed by the company with the aim of reducing the cost of map maintenance while rewarding participating users with miles (points).
Users are presented with more than 30 different “quests,” including building names, coin-operated parking spaces, arrowhead traffic lights, EV/charging stations, mailboxes, public restrooms, etc. They can earn miles by actually visiting the location, taking photos, and posting them. Miles are awarded for actually visiting the location, taking photos, and submitting them.
The mileage awarded varies from 500 to 5,000 miles per quest, depending on the difficulty level and the need for map maintenance, and a maximum of five submissions can be made per day (25,000 miles = equivalent to 250 yen). Miles accumulated can be exchanged for cash, d-points, Amazon gift cards, or other company points by linking with Trima (exchange fee is 20%).
According to the company, it is considering extending the functionality of the system to include gamification and social networking elements, and is also considering linking the system with solutions for local governments and businesses, as it matches the needs of creating a database of roads and facilities in need of repair.
