On June 11, Seibu Railway and Kiyose City held a ceremony at Kiyose Station on the Ikebukuro Line to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Kiyose Station.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Takashi Goto, Chairman of Seibu Railway, Mr. Keiji Shibuya, Mayor of Kiyose City, Ms. Yumiko Shaku, a native of Kiyose City, Mr. Reiji Nakagawa and Ms. Ayako Suzukawa, both known railroad enthusiasts, who cut the tape.

After the commemorative photo session, Mayor Shibuya led a talk session with Mr. Shaku about his memories of Kiyose City, and with Mr. Reiji and Ms. Suzukawa about railroad stories and 100th anniversary goods.

Shaku’s costume was inspired by the sunflower associated with Kiyose. “The nearest station was Akitsu, but how sophisticated and cool is Kiyose station? I thought. I was thrilled when I could run errands at Kiyose station, so I used to frequent the gelato shop in front of the south exit, which is now closed, and the Nichii supermarket,” he said.

The two train enthusiasts and the mayor then introduced the commemorative train tickets and Yoshimoto Curry. Yoshimoto Curry is the most popular menu item at Munch Lunch, the employee cafeteria of Yoshimoto Kogyo’s Tokyo headquarters, and is part of the company’s efforts to create regional development, collaborating with ingredients from all over Japan.

This time, sweet corn from Kiyose City was used. Mayor Shibuya, who had tasted the curry beforehand, commented, “The sweetness of the sweet corn in the spicy curry was very tasty.

Reiji prefaced his memories of Kiyose by saying, “I’m a Seibu Lions fan, so I often take the Ikebukuro Line and pass by Kiyose Station. …… Sorry, Kiyose Station is within walking distance from the south exit of the barber shop BB Tsubame, which is frequented by railroad fans. He shared an episode of BB Tsubame, a barbershop within walking distance from the south exit and frequented by railroad fans.

I’ve been there several times on business. When you sit down, they use a microphone to guide you to your seat, saying, ‘Seat number one, please come this way. When you come to Kiyose, you should definitely take advantage of this service.
