On June 13, JR Tokai and JR West announced the retirement of the Shinkansen electric track test car “Doctor Yellow.
JR Tokai’s Doctor Yellow (T4 train), nicknamed “Shinkansen Doctor,” has been inspecting the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines since 2001 to maintain safe and stable transportation. However, due to its aging, it will cease to run on the Shinkansen in January 2025.
JR West’s Doctor Yellow (T5 train) was built in 2005 and has been used alternately with JR Tokai’s T4 train about once every 10 days, but will stop running after 2027.
The company plans to hold photo sessions at the rail yard, experience train rides, and car body cleaning events, as well as to sell commemorative goods.
