In Bhutan, the “Strengthening the Government’s Digital Technology and Data Utilization Capacity Project” is being implemented as a technical cooperation project. This project aims to contribute to solving health issues in Bhutan, where non-communicable diseases are on the rise as the country changes to a modern lifestyle, by utilizing health data to provide personalized healthcare services and promote health awareness and behavior change among the population.

The Bhutanese government also hopes to use the data linkage infrastructure that will be developed through this project to attract research institutions and companies from Japan and other countries that are interested in the utilization of health data and wellbeing, thereby contributing to Bhutan’s economic development.

Therefore, this time our project was exhibited at the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine, where specialists engaged in various research and business activities for the realization of a society of health, longevity, and wellbeing gathered. During the three days of the conference, we introduced our project to more than 20 universities, companies, and foundations in Japan and abroad, and exchanged opinions on the possibility of collaboration with them.

For example, active discussions were held between pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, companies that support the digitization of medical services, startups that provide services aiming to link genetic analysis to the extension of healthy life expectancy, and companies that provide foods and supplements that are believed to be beneficial to health. In the future, we will explore the possibility of co-creation with these various players through the utilization of Bhutanese healthcare data collaboration.
