Totsuka Ward’s “Twin Liner” articulated buses begin operation on July 1. Introduced on the route between Totsuka Bus Center and Dream Heights.

On June 17, Yokohama City and Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu announced that the “Twin Liner,” a series of buses, will begin operating in the southwestern part of Totsuka Ward on July 1.

The new buses are Hino Blue Ribbon Hybrid Intercity Buses, with a seating capacity of 113 passengers. 6 units will be introduced and operate on the route between Totsuka Bus Center, Matano Park, Yokohama Yakudai-mae, and Dream Heights.

This is part of a collaborative effort between the city of Yokohama and Kinnanaka Bus to address the current situation of declining bus ridership and a shortage of drivers. Yokohama City will be in charge of widening bus bays and improving the running environment for the operation of articulated buses, while Kinnanaka Bus will be in charge of formulating an operation plan and operating the buses.

The fare for articulated buses is the same as for regular large buses (current fare). However, the method of payment and boarding and alighting for articulated buses differ depending on the direction of operation. In the direction of Dream Heights, fares are paid later, and passengers board from the middle door and alight from the front door. In the direction of Totsuka Bus Center, fares are declared and paid in advance, boarding at the front door and alighting at the middle door.

In addition to the introduction of articulated buses, a new route will be established between Shimoiida Station and Matano Koen/Yokohama Yakko Daigaku-mae, a route will be maintained in the Jitate direction, and a fare discount will be offered to passengers who transfer buses at Hono Koen/Yokohama Yakko Daigaku-mae.
