The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Metropolitan Expressway announced on June 18 that they have obtained approval for the urban planning project for Highway No. 1 (Shin-Kyobashi Liaison Road) and will implement the project.
The Shin-Kyobashi connecting path is an approximately 1.1-km line connecting the Tsukijigawa section of the Central Tokyo Loop Line (C1) and the Yaesu Line (Y). The new line will be constructed because the Tokyo Metropolitan Loop Line connecting road at Edobashi JCT will be discontinued due to the undergrounding of the Nihonbashi section.
In conjunction with the construction, the Marunouchi entrance will be constructed as a replacement for the Edobashi entrance, and retaining walls near the Ginza and Kyobashi entrances will be replaced. The project is scheduled for completion in FY2035.
In addition, the Shin-Kyobashi connecting road will reduce the number of traffic between Kandabashi and Edobashi, thereby reducing traffic congestion, and by implementing the project together with the construction of the aging Tsukiji River section, it will renew the structure and improve driving safety by removing the bridge piers in the roadway.
