A “machete knife” that can both bushcraft and cook is born in Seki, Japan. Full tang made of Swedish steel

Gaku Hayashi will accept pre-orders for its “Nata Knife,” an outdoor knife that combines the elements of a machete and a knife, through Makeake. Pre-orders will be accepted from 11:00 a.m. on June 19.

The knives are handmade one by one in Seki-shi, one of the world’s three major cutlery production centers, using Swedish steel (14C28N), which is more rust-resistant and has a longer-lasting sharpness than stainless steel. The grip is made of G10, an epoxy resin reinforced glass fiber with multiple layers, which is resistant to heat and can be used near a campfire without worrying about deformation or getting burnt.

The blade is 148 mm long, 40 mm wide, 4.5 m thick, and weighs about 330 g. It is a full tang with a single piece construction from the blade tip to the end of the grip, and is said to withstand use for batoning and bushcraft. The shape is also said to be similar to a santoku knife, making it easy to handle when used for cooking.

The product also comes with a cowhide leather sheath with a loop that can be attached to a belt for carrying, and will be available for sale at 28,600 yen. Paracord straps in all five colors are also available as an option for 550 yen.
