New Balance will release Shohei Ohtani’s first signature spike “Ohtani 1” on July 17, 2012. It will be available at the official New Balance online store, New Balance Harajuku, and some other stores.
Based on Otani’s insight, two models will be developed that incorporate the unique needs of the two-sport athlete who pitches and hits. Features include a design that places the studs 2mm closer to the ground than conventional spikes, a “less-drop” structure that allows the user to feel the ground with the entire sole of the foot by smoothly shifting the center of gravity like leverage, and a durable PU upper with a FuelCell midsole that provides excellent cushioning and resilience.
The spike model “Ohtani v1 Metal” is 26,400 yen. The turf training model “Ohtani v1 Turf” is 18,700 yen. Both models are available in sizes 24.0-30.0 cm, foot width D/2E, and white/black.
