On June 25, Luup announced a new specific small moped vehicle, the “Electric Seat Board,” for a wide range of ages.
The electric seat board is a specified small motorized bicycle with a seat and basket, and is scheduled to be introduced in the company’s “LUUP” sharing service from the winter of 2024 (service area to be determined). The bicycle is designed to be easy to ride for those who need to travel for long periods of time or carry large luggage for shopping, and is currently under development with a view to future use as a means of transportation for those who have not used LUUPs in the past due to concerns about their legs and back. This will be the first time in Japan that a specific small motorized bicycle with a seat and basket will be offered as a sharing service.
The electric seatboard, a new vehicle following LUUP’s electrically power assisted bicycles and electric kickboards, is equipped with an “anti-bicycle misidentification design” to further clarify that it is not a bicycle at a glance. While the “electric kickboards” have become a more familiar vehicle, there has been a problem of users themselves and people around them mistaking them for bicycles.
In order to reduce the number of users who ignore traffic laws and ride bicycles as if they were bicycles, a design has been adopted in which the legs do not cross over the vehicle when the rider sits down. The design is clearly different from that of bicycles to ensure safe use.
From winter 2024 onward, the LUUP app (Android/iOS version) for the sharing service will be available for use in the same way as existing electric bicycles and electric kickboards.
