Patisserie SATSUKI, new curry bread based on the hotel’s traditional taste. 1,620 yen per loaf

Patisserie SATSUKI (4-1 Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), a pastry store of Hotel New Otani (Tokyo), has released “Kuroge Wagyu Ginza Beef Curry Bread”. Priced at 1,620 yen per loaf.

To mark the 60th anniversary of its opening in September 2024, the popular “Curry Bread,” which has been a longtime favorite, has been renewed. Ingredients have been carefully examined from the ground up to create a satisfying dish that will whet your appetite in the summer.

The curry roux is an adaptation of the hotel’s traditional “Ginza Beef Curry” for curry bread. The richness of the curry is characterized by the combination of slowly fried onions and spices based on bouillon that has been passed down from generation to generation, and is available at the restaurant and coffee shop “SATSUKI” in the hotel.

The black beef ingredient is large enough to have a strong presence and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Accented with fukujinzuke pickles and cornichons, it is wrapped in bread dough and slowly hand-fried one by one in rice oil by artisans.

Patisserie SATSUKI also offers five other fried breads: “Shimomachi Shrimp Curry Bread” (810 yen), which combines SATSUKI’s Ginza Shrimp Curry and plump shrimp; “Shimomachi Shrimp and Crab Gratin Bread” ( (972 yen), “New Beef Stew Bread” (950 yen) to enjoy tender braised beef, “Crab Curry Bread” (961 yen) wrapped with snow crab garnished with cognac, and “Ginza Prime Beef Curry Bread” (1004 yen), the meat used for roast beef served at the hotel. The “Ginza Prime Beef Curry Bread” (1004 yen) is also available.

All of the deep-fried breads are satisfying, yet easy to enjoy the restaurant’s royal Western-style menu, and are said to be recommended for summer gourmets.
