IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 19 hotel brands with more than 6,300 hotels in over 100 countries. In Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates approximately 47 hotels under seven brands from Hokkaido to Okinawa (as of March 2024). For this interview, we asked Bruce Gully, general manager of the Strings Hotel Tokyo InterContinental, about the attractions around the hotel.
Name: Strings Hotel Tokyo InterContinental
Location: Shinagawa East One Tower 26F-32F, 2-16-1 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo
–How did you come to work at the Strings Hotel Tokyo Intercontinental?
I first came to Japan in 2013 and took on a role supporting several IHG Hotels & Resorts hotels, including the “String’s Hotel Tokyo InterContinental”. After 10 years, I returned to the “String’s Hotel Tokyo InterContinental” as General Manager and truly enjoyed my new role. I am delighted to be reunited with my warmly welcoming team and guests, to see the recovery of the tourism industry, and to enjoy my new experiences in Japan.
–What kind of hotel is it?
The String Hotel Tokyo InterContinental is the perfect luxury hotel for enjoying Tokyo, located on the 26th to 32nd floors, offering comfort and easy access to the city’s most popular attractions. Beautiful interiors, luxurious guest rooms, and the Club InterContinental Lounge overlooking the Tokyo skyline, as well as restaurants offering seasonal menus and accommodations for meetings and events Adjacent to JR Shinagawa Station, the hotel offers convenient access to major cities and Haneda Airport.
Convenient access to Shinagawa Station, quality restaurants and bars, excellent service, and friendly staff are just some of the attractions of our hotel. Many of our regular guests have been with us for many years, and our familiar staff will welcome you with a “welcome back”. Club InterContinental Rooms and Suites guests enjoy panoramic views of Tokyo from the Club Lounge and a relaxing atmosphere, making the hotel a true urban oasis.
–please let me know if you have any personal favorites tourist spots or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel.
I am amazed at the diversity of restaurants in this area. The hotel is within walking distance of Tennozu Isle, which offers a wide variety of restaurants, including the popular T.Y.HARBOR. Events are regularly held on Tennozu Isle, and you can also enjoy a stroll around the area. There are also many restaurants and coffee shops around Shinagawa Station and in the Kita-Shinagawa area, making it a fun place to discover. Shinagawa is a convenient area to go anywhere.
–What restaurant menu do you recommend?
Teppan-yaki “Kazane” is recommended for foreign customers. Wagyu beef and other carefully selected Japanese ingredients can be enjoyed with a menu of seasonal flavors. Chinese cuisine at “China Shadow” offers Chef Ando’s innovative and sophisticated cuisine, and the view of the Tokyo skyline from the 26th floor is one of the most special experiences in the area. Chinese afternoon tea is also highly recommended. For Western cuisine, try the semi-lunch buffet Vivace at the Italian grill Melodia or dinner in the luxurious seven-story atrium.
–What souvenirs do you recommend?
The String’s Hotel Tokyo InterContinental offers a gift selection that is perfect for a quick souvenir. The seasoning selection from China Shadow Chinese Cuisine makes it easy to enjoy authentic hotel-made flavors in the comfort of your own home. My favorite is the String Chocolate Selection by the Pastry Team. Executive Pastry Chef Nagata’s delicious chocolates are the perfect gift for any occasion.
