On July 4, Cathay Pacific celebrated the 65th anniversary of its first flight to Japan in 1959, and held a commemorative event at Haneda Airport, its first flight destination.
A commemorative board was set up near the L counter in Terminal 3, where CAs took pictures with passengers, and Nelson Chin, General Manager of Cathay Pacific’s Northeast Asia Region, gave a speech at a ceremony held in front of Gate 164.
Today marks exactly 65 years since our first flight from Haneda,” said Nelson. We have left a special mark as a commercial airline with international service to Osaka, Nagoya, and Sapporo,” he said, “and we hope to provide more choices for our customers traveling to many cities in Asia and beyond.
Currently, the airline operates more than 16 daily flights to Hong Kong from six airports in five cities (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Centrair (Chubu), Fukuoka, and Shin-Chitose) on its Japan route. Worldwide, the airline serves more than 80 destinations, and plans to add another 10 destinations by early 2025. They also plan to introduce more than 70 new aircraft, including the Airbus A321 and Airbus A320neo this year and the new Boeing 777-9, which is capable of ultra-long distance flights, next year.
After the ceremony, CAs and ground staff saw off passengers on CX549 from Haneda to Hong Kong and presented them with tote bags filled with Cathay goods. The 65th person to board the flight was also given 65,000 miles as a surprise commemorative gift.
To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the airline’s service to Japan, two special fare promotions will be launched today in cooperation with the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
