Expedia has released the results of an international comparison study on paid vacation use, as well as a “Paid Vacation Travel Calendar” that shows recommended dates for international travel using paid vacation.
The company conducts a similar survey every year in 11 regions around the world, and Japan (53%) had the third highest percentage of respondents (after Hong Kong (61%) and Singapore (55%)) who said they felt guilty about their colleagues covering their work in relation to taking paid leave.
In Japan, 61% of respondents said that their bosses are supportive of their taking leave, and 92% of their bosses said that they are flexible when asked to take leave. The survey also shows that there is a growing understanding in the workplace regarding the use of paid leave.
However, Japan’s paid vacation utilization rate is still the lowest among the 11 regions surveyed, at 63%, and Expedia has released a “Travel Calendar” for July and beyond. The calendar can be downloaded as wallpaper for smartphones.
The calendar introduces the best overseas travel destinations for Japanese tourists in each month, as well as the recommended dates and number of nights for paid vacations.
The company also offers savings tips, such as the fact that regardless of itinerary or seat rank, the cheapest tickets are most likely to be found on Sundays, with an average savings of about 26% compared to booking on Friday, and a departure date of Thursday, with an average savings of 21% compared to a departure on Sunday.
