The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), together with the Government of Bangladesh and others, jointly held a memorial ceremony to commemorate the seven Japanese who lost their lives in the July 2016 terrorist attack in Dhaka (engaged in a preparatory survey for cooperation in the Dhaka urban transportation development project).
The memorial ceremony was held on July 3 in front of the cenotaph in the Dhaka Urban Transit Company, Bangladesh, with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Kiminori Iwama, Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hideki Kusakabe, Under Secretary, Economic Relations Bureau, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh; Under Secretary, Road Transport Department, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Bangladesh; and President, Bangladesh Urban Transit Company Siddique Dhaka, Bangladesh, and others, The ceremony was held in front of the cenotaph located in the Dhaka Urban Railway Line 6 depot, with the attendance of Bangladeshi and Japanese government officials and the bereaved family members. Eight years have passed since the terrorist attack, and we expressed our condolences to the victims and renewed our pledge for safety and peace to prevent the incident from fading away.
