Onsen Dojo’s one-day spa “Showa Retro Onsen Sento Tamagawa Onsen” (3700 Tamagawa, Tokigawa-cho, Hiki-gun, Saitama Prefecture) will celebrate its 30th anniversary by offering a series of services from July 13 to provide a more Showa retro experience.
The first project, “Shin Tamagawa Terrace,” a retro Showa-era studio, will be launched on July 13. A tobacco shop, a wooden telephone booth, and a ramen noodle stall will be on display, allowing visitors to take photos as if they have stepped back in time to the Showa period.
In addition, “mirror advertisements” that were once found in public bathhouses will be revived in the bathrooms with Showa-era retro designs of actual store and company names and logos, and enamel-style billboard advertisements will be posted on the terrace.
Around fall, they plan to offer a “Shichirin-yaki Plan,” in which dried fish is grilled on a shichirin (a seven-ring grill) along with rice and pickles. And in winter, they will also form a chindong-ya (ding-dong shop), which will use musical instruments and singing to convey the charms of Tamagawa Onsen and Tokigawa Town.
