Tanbara Lavender Park (350-1, Kamishachi-cho, Numata City, Gunma Prefecture), operated by Tamahara Tokyu Resort, provides information on the state of blooming on its official website. About 20,000 early-blooming “Koi Murasaki” lavender plants are in full bloom.
As of July 9, in addition to Koi-murasaki, the mid-blooming variety “Nananarisawa” has begun to darken in color and is expected to be at its best by mid-July. In addition, the late-blooming “Grosso” variety is expected to bloom in late July and will be at its best in early August.
Located at an elevation of 1,300 meters, the garden is one of the largest in the Kanto area, with approximately 50,000 lavender plants, and is one of Gunma Prefecture’s most popular summer vacation spots, with an average high temperature of 25°C during July and August, which is cooler than the Tokyo metropolitan area. This year, “Komorebi Terrace,” where visitors can relax under the shade of trees and view the lavenders, was newly established. The park’s souvenir store sells dried flowers, potpourri, and pressed flower goods that allow visitors to fully enjoy the fragrance of lavender.
From July 13 to August 12, “Lavender Picking Experience” will be held (twice each day). Participants can take home the lavenders they pick and use them as dried flowers or potpourri. Participation fee is 1,000 yen per person, with a limit of 50 people per session.
