In response to a request from the government of Jamaica for assistance for hurricane damage in Jamaica, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide emergency relief supplies as follows.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the country of Jamaica on July 3, 2024, causing extensive human and property damage in the affected areas.

Damage as of July 11 (according to JICA Jamaica office)

Dead Unknown

Affected people: approx. 920,000

Evacuees (evacuees) Approx. 1,800 or more

Damage to infrastructure (roads, bridges, airports, communications, electricity, water, etc.):

Roads: At least 115 roads were blocked by trees and other obstacles.

Telecommunications: Communication failure at several companies

Power outages: 60-65% of households (approx. 400,000 people)

Water supply: 70% of households had their water cut off

Coordinating transportation from JICA Miami warehouse to Kingston on a short notice flight.
