JICA has set “Promotion of Digitalization 1” for the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the development of Japan and developing countries, and has identified the development of digital human resources and industrial promotion in developing countries as one of the priority items. The project is designed to promote the export of Armenia’s high-tech industry and strengthen ties between Japan and Armenia’s high-tech industry.

The project’s activities include “Promotion of Collaboration with STEAM Education 2 (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Creative Education) Institutions” and is collaborating with the TUMO Center, a leading STEAM education institution in Armenia. JICA is also cooperating with the TUMO Center by translating the TUMO Center’s learning programs into Japanese, editing them for Japanese students, and providing other educational materials and support for the dispatch of human resources from the TUMO Center.

Under such circumstances, the signing of the TUMO Gunma agreement took place on June 25 at G-Messe Gunma in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, between Governor Yamamoto of Gunma Prefecture and CEO Marie TUMO Center. On the following day, 26th, at the Digital Agency, Governor Yamamoto and CEO of Marie TUMO Center reported to Minister Kono on the signing of the “TUMO Gunma” contract, and JICA Director Ando explained JICA’s cooperation. Minister Kono expressed his hope that Armenia’s globally acclaimed digital human resource education will spill over from Gunma Prefecture to the development of digital human resources in Japan at large through the success of “TUMO Gunma”.

In addition to cooperation with the TUMO Center, the project supports the promotion of cooperation between Japanese and Armenian companies by matching Armenian high-tech companies with Japanese companies and jointly implementing pilot projects.

Through these activities, JICA will contribute to the economic development of Armenia and promote contributions to Japanese society, such as digital human resource education for Japanese youth and promotion of local digital industries, by returning excellent initiatives from developing countries.
