IHG Hotels & Resorts operates 19 hotel brands with more than 6,300 hotels in over 100 countries. In Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates about 47 hotels under seven brands from Hokkaido to Okinawa (as of March 2024). For this interview, we asked Hiroyuki Miyata, general manager of the Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay, about the hotel’s surrounding area.
Name: Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay
Location: 1-16-2 Kaigan, Minato-ku, Tokyo
–How did you come to work at the Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay?
From 2021, I was appointed as the head of the development department for wedding management contracts at hotels and wedding halls, including the ANA InterContinental Hotel Tokyo, at Best Hospitality Network, Inc. which operates the Hotel InterContinental Tokyo Bay. With demand expected to recover after the Corona disaster, I assumed the position of General Manager when the organization was reorganized in December 2022.
–What kind of hotel is it?
Belonging to IHG Hotels & Resorts, which operates more than 6,300 hotels worldwide, the hotel opened in 1995 as an InterContinental brand hotel and will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year in 2025. It is conveniently located directly connected to Takeshiba Station on the Yurikamome Line and an 8-minute walk from Hamamatsucho Station on the JR Line and Tokyo Monorail, and is used by many domestic and international guests for both business and pleasure.
The hotel has two lounges exclusively for hotel guests. The lounge, “Wa-NAGOMI-LOUNGE,” which was newly added in 2023 and features a garden with a Japanese satoyama theme, offers Japanese breakfast, afternoon tea with a Japanese theme, kaiseki-style dinner, matcha green tea experience, and a yukata and fan rental service that can be enjoyed in the room. You can also enjoy traditional Japanese culture by borrowing a yukata or a fan to enjoy in your room.
–please let me know if you have any personal favorites tourist spots or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel.
At Hinode Pier, a 5-minute walk from the hotel, you can dine at a restaurant with a terrace and enjoy the waterside scenery, or take an elegant cruise on a water bus that provides access to Asakusa and Tokyo Sky Tree. We also recommend visiting Waters Takeshiba, a complex symbolic of the beautiful waterfront, and the Kyu-Shibarikyu Gardens, the representative feudal garden of Tokyo and Edo period (1603-1868).
–What restaurant menu do you recommend?
Afternoon tea is offered with a different theme for each season. Each restaurant offers this tea, but we especially recommend the New York Lounge. The lounge offers a luxurious atmosphere in a gorgeous space with plush sofas where you can sit comfortably amidst a high-quality interior.
–What souvenirs do you recommend?
At “The Shop N.Y. Lounge Boutique” on the first floor, you can purchase the hotel’s original aroma goods used in the hotel. The shop features a blend of 11 aromas, including elegant ho wood and calming cedarwood, jasmine, and ylang-ylang. We hope you will experience the high quality and exotic luxury space at your home or office.
