The average cost of a domestic trip is 60,600 yen per person. Local spending tends to be highest among males aged 18-29.

The highest per-trip spending was by seniors, including women in their 70s. Local consumption is dominated by young males. Looking at one-time trip expenses by gender and age group, women in their 70s have the highest total cost at 67,900 yen, while women in their 60s, men in their 70s, and other senior citizens are prominent. Looking only at lodging expenses for individual travel, those in their 60s and older all spent more than 20,000 yen, while those in the younger age group of 18-29 were in the 15,000 yen range for both men and women. However, local spending is notably higher for males aged 18-29, at 31,300 yen. Survey outline Survey method: Web-based questionnaire
