On July 19, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of foreign visitors to Japan in June reached 3,135,600, a record high for a single month.
This is a 51.2% increase over the same month in 2023 and an 8.9% increase over the same month in 2019. The first half of the year totaled 1,777,200, more than 1 million more than the same period in 2019, which once set a new record.
According to JNTO, the number of foreign visitors to Japan increased in Taiwan in East Asia, the Philippines in Southeast Asia, and the U.S. in Europe, the U.S., Australia, and the Middle East, in addition to the increase in demand for visits to Japan during consecutive holidays including school vacations in some markets, as in May.
Of the 23 markets, 18 (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Nordic region, and the Middle East) recorded a record high for June, while Taiwan and the United States set new single-month records.
