Weathernews has updated the heat stroke information on its WeatherNews weather app, adding “very dangerous” to the heat stroke risk rank.
The heat stroke information includes hourly heat stroke forecasts for the next 48 hours and weekly forecasts for the next seven days, displayed on a 1 km mesh with pinpoint accuracy.
The heat stroke risk level indicated by each function is ranked from “almost safe” to “extremely dangerous” in six levels. The company has adopted its own standards calculated by analyzing the relationship between the number of heat stroke patients transported and the heat index (WBGT), and taking into account the tendency for heat stroke to occur at different times of the year and in different areas.
The newly added “extremely dangerous” threshold is set at the heat index of 33°C, the standard for heat stroke alerts issued by the Ministry of the Environment and the Japan Meteorological Agency.
In addition, the system is also compatible with the Heat Stroke Special Alert, which began operating in April. When the alert is announced, a push notification is sent to the user.
