Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were handed over to Grenada in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl in Grenada.
Emergency relief supplies for Grenada arrived in the capital city of St. George’s on Monday, July 22. A handover ceremony was held at 18:00 (local time) at the National Disaster Management Agency on the same day, attended by Mr. Joseph Andor, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development and Mr. Terence Walters, Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Agency from Grenada, and Mr. Hiroshi Matsubara, Ambassador of Japan to Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Ichiro Mimura, JICA Saint Lucia Office Director from Japan. The ceremony was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Hiroshi Matsubara, and Mr. Ichiro Mimura, Director of the JICA Saint Lucia Office.
At the handover ceremony, Minister Andor expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance, and Coordinator Walters stated that the goods would be promptly delivered to the devastated areas in the northern region. In response, Ambassador Matsubara and Mr. Mimura expressed their hope that the hurricane damage will be contained as soon as possible, and that Japan, which has experienced many disasters, will continue to share its experiences of disaster and recovery with the international community and strengthen cooperation with them.
The relief supplies provided this time will be delivered to the victims by the government of the country.
