Background and Objectives
Since 2016, JICA has been implementing the “Bridge to Peace and Human Resources Development Program for Syrian Refugees (JISR)”, a Syrian refugee study abroad program that provides educational opportunities to Syrian youth with the aim of contributing to the future reconstruction of Syria and developing human resources to serve as a bridge between Syria and Japan. We are now planning to hold delivery lectures by international students and graduates of the program in the hope that Japanese elementary, junior high, and high school students will learn more about Syria and the Syrian people. We will first hold an online seminar for elementary, junior high, and high school teachers as an opportunity for them to learn what kind of delivery lectures we can offer. On the day of the seminar, two Syrian exchange students will be invited as guest speakers to introduce Syria from various perspectives. This is a must-see for teachers who want to deal with themes such as “international understanding,” “conflict/civil war,” “diversity/coexistence in society,” “natural disasters,” “refugee issues,” and “peace” in their classes.
