On July 29, Spring Japan unveiled a new uniform for flight attendants to commemorate its 10th anniversary. Mr. Mamoru Michikawa of the Cabin Crew Section of the Cabin Department was in charge of explaining the new uniforms.
The new uniform concept was based on the company’s corporate philosophy of “3S” (Safety, Sincerity, Smile) with the addition of “Sense of Security.” The new uniform was designed using dark green to emphasize the corporate color of yellowish green.
The project took about a year and a half to complete with a cumulative team of 15 people, with some turnover. The project team was made up of flight attendants who were actually on the flight, and the project emphasized functionality, including the use of lightweight, soft, stretchy material for ease of movement, such as “easy opening and closing of overhead luggage racks,” and “fully washable in a household washing machine and form-stable.
For women, a one-piece dress, jacket, short-sleeved blouse, skirt, and pants are available in a total of six combinations. For men, a jacket, vest, shirt (short/long sleeve), and pants can be combined for a total of four different outfits.
The jackets and skirts for women incorporate ruffles to give them an elegant feel, while more active pants styles can be selected, and scarves can be worn around the neck or arranged not around the neck (on hot days, for example) using the holes in the collar. The blouse depicts six different spring flowers (cherry, peach, lily, amaryllis, dogwood, and lily of the valley).
For the first time, vests were used for men. The vests and jackets have eye-catching asymmetrical colored collars, and the shirts have a dark green color scheme on the back of the collar to prevent sweat stains from standing out.
This new uniform will be worn as the second uniform beginning with flights on August 1.
