What is the birth of Space Mountain? Space Mountain is one of the three most popular attractions at Tokyo Disneyland, along with Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. Its distinctive mortar-shaped exterior is a symbol of Tomorrowland, “a world of tomorrow where science and technology are in harmony. As mentioned above, it has been operating at the park since its opening, and this year marks its 41st anniversary. The attraction concept was conceived by Walt Disney. At the time, the technology was not available to make it a reality, but in 1975, it was realized as the world’s first computer-controlled, fully systematized thrill ride. It has a history of appearing in the Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Gordon Cooper, one of America’s first astronauts, was a consultant in the attraction’s development. He has put his knowledge gained at NASA into the attraction and worked hard to provide the best experience of space without actually traveling in space. Tokyo’s “Space Mountain” was the third in the world, after California’s Disneyland Park in 1977, and was redesigned in 2007 after a one-year renovation that began in October 2006. Many people must have memories of the giant dome, which is illuminated with brilliant lights at night.

On the last day of the event, guests were able to get passes on their smartphones for a smooth ride! Guests were excited to enjoy the last ride! The area around the attraction was crowded with guests who were looking forward to enjoying the last trip to space on the current Space Mountain. was crowded with guests who wanted to enjoy their last space trip on the current Space Mountain on the last day of the event. The line seemed to be relatively smooth, as it had been announced in advance that only guests who had acquired the “Tokyo Disney Resort 40th Anniversary Priority Pass” via the official app on their smartphones could use the attraction. In addition, Cast Members distributed originally designed stickers around the attractions. Guests could be seen taking commemorative photos with one of these shiny, special stickers, which were a token of their gratitude for all the support they have received. Furthermore, when the park opened, Tomorrowland cast members lined up in a row to welcome guests. The area around the park was filled with guests taking commemorative photos and enjoying communication with each other, making it a perfect finale to the event. We interviewed guests who enjoyed the final day of their space trip. A guest from Gunma commented, “I must ride Space Mountain today! I’ve been looking forward to it with my son and daughter,” commented a guest from Gunma. I rode it when I was little and enjoyed it even after I grew up, so I have good memories of it. I was 20 years old when the park opened, and I’m sad to see it close for a while, but I will definitely come back when it’s new. I will ride three times today! she told us. A guest who came to the park with her sisters said, “I was deeply moved that it was the last time. It is an attraction that has been there since I was born, so I still can’t believe that it is closing, but I was able to enjoy it to the fullest for the last time. I will definitely come back to ride again because I know it will exceed my expectations! I will definitely come back to ride again! One of the guests won a prize in the campaign and was able to take the final ride. I haven’t ridden in a really long time, but I enjoyed it just as much as I did when I was in elementary school,” said one guest. After 40 years, I thought it was about time, so I’m looking forward to the next three years! I’m sure we’ll end up with something beyond our imagination.” I’m sure we’ll be able to create something beyond our imagination.
