The AIDA/AfCFTA Impact Assessment Guide is a set of unified indicators for measuring and evaluating the social and economic impacts of AIDA’s industrialization and AfCFTA implementation, developed by AUDA-NEPAD in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat and the African Union Commission (AUC). JICA supported the development of these indicators. It is expected that the impact of these indicators will be visualized through the measurement of their effectiveness using this guide in the member countries of the African Union (AU), and that intra-continental trade will be further stimulated through industrialization and promotion of the operation of AfCFTA.
At the launching ceremony, Mr. Nakamura, Special Assistant to the President of JICA, stated that this Assessment Guide, which was jointly developed by JICA and its African partners, is a milestone in promoting Africa’s economic development, and that JICA remains committed to a comprehensive and sustainable future for Africa. JICA will continue to make efforts for a comprehensive and sustainable future of Africa.
Mr. Menet, Director General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, also expressed his gratitude for “the initiative of AUDA-NEPAD in completing this guide and for JICA’s contribution, not only in preparing this guide, but also in promoting trade, trade-related infrastructure, and industrialization throughout the African continent. We hope that you will cooperate with us in formulating actual policies using this guide,” he said, expressing hope for the future use of this guide.
In closing, Mr. Bekele Thomas, Director General of AUDA-NEPAD, stated that “Africa’s development and progress is not the product of a single organization, but of co-creation with various partners, including Japan, and that we will further promote efforts at the national, regional, and continental levels to achieve Agenda 2063. We would like to further promote efforts at the national, regional, and continental levels to achieve Agenda 2063.
