Rakuten OPTIMISM” at Tokyo Big Sight, giant gacha with free accommodation coupons, etc.

Posted on 2024-08-022024-09-27 by Editor in Chief

Rakuten Group is holding a private event “Rakuten OPTIMISM 2024” at Tokyo Big Sight from August 1 to 4.

At the booths of Rakuten Travel and Rakuten Gurunavi, visitors can try their hand at a giant gacha (500 yen for one time) to win free accommodation tickets and original goods from hotels and hot spring ryokans in Japan and abroad.

The venue also has a “Gotochi Yatai Yokocho” where visitors can enjoy food from all over Japan, making it a good place to visit for gourmet purposes.

At the business conference held on the 2nd, Yoshiyuki Takano, Managing Executive Officer and Vice President of Travel & Mobility Business, Rakuten Group, and Toshiro Maruyama, Mayor of Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture, held a discussion on the theme of “Toward Sustainable Tourism Town Development.

Hakuba Village, which is said to be the birthplace of minshuku, has a strong impression of winter since it hosted the Winter Olympics. However, many mountain climbers originally visited the village in summer, and attracting visitors at other times of the year has been a challenge. In recent years, the village’s appeal to Australia, which is in the southern hemisphere and has the opposite season, has been successful in attracting more inbound visitors, which have spread to Europe, the U.S., and Asia.

The “Shirouma-so,” which Mr. Maruyama himself manages, was rebuilt on the occasion of the Olympics, and as a result of his efforts to convey the story behind the building while retaining the farmhouse aspect, it has received high acclaim, especially from overseas.

Hakuba Village has established a multicultural ordinance and is aware of the need to live in harmony with foreigners. When the local high school was on the verge of extinction, the village took advantage of the large number of foreign visitors and established an international tourism department to provide a realistic learning opportunity, which attracted students from all over the country. Mr. Maruyama said that although there are many challenges in rural areas, there are also many resources that can be treasured, and he hopes to communicate the value of these resources.
