Weathernews announced the nationwide weather trend for the night of August 12 to the dawn of August 13, when one of the three major meteor showers, the Perseid meteor shower, will be visible.
Due to a low pressure system with a front approaching from the west, clouds are expected to spread easily in Kyushu, and moist easterly and southeasterly winds will make observation difficult over a wide area centered in the eastern part of the Chubu region, Kanto, the Pacific side of Tohoku, and the Pacific side of Hokkaido.
On the other hand, in Okinawa, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kinki, western Tokai, western Hokuriku, the Sea of Japan side of Tohoku, and northern Hokkaido, which are less affected by these meteor showers, there is a chance to see up to 40 meteors in an hour with some clear skies, although there are clouds.
In addition, since the influence of moonlight will disappear in 2024, the conditions are favorable for stargazing.
Weather News LiVE, a 24-hour live weather information channel, will broadcast a special program on the Perseid meteor shower on the evening of January 12. The program will broadcast live starry skies from up to seven locations across Japan.
