In response to the “Nankai Trough Earthquake Warning” issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency on the evening of August 8, JR companies have announced their ticket refund policy. The following tickets will be refunded or their validity changed free of charge.
Tickets valid from August 8 to 15, and departing from, or passing through, all conventional lines, the Sanyo Shinkansen and the Hokuriku Shinkansen (between Tsuruga Station and Joetsu Myoko Station).
Tickets that arrive at, depart from, or pass through the Tokaido Shinkansen line that are valid from August 8 to 15. Tickets that arrive at, depart from, or pass through each line of conventional lines.
Tickets valid from August 8 to 15 that arrive at, depart from, or pass through all conventional lines and the Hokuriku Shinkansen (between Tokyo Station and Joetsu Myoko Station).
Tickets valid from August 8 to 15 that arrive at, depart from, or pass through the Kyushu Shinkansen line (Kagoshima-Chuo to Hakata) Tickets valid from August 8 to 9 that arrive at, depart from, or pass through conventional lines and the Western Kyushu Shinkansen line (Nagasaki to Takeo Onsen).
JR Shikoku
Tickets valid from August 8 to August 14 that arrive at, depart from, or pass through each line
If you use “Express Reservation”, “Smart EX”, “e5489”, or “JR Kyushu Net Reservation”, you will need to use your own smartphone or other devices. If you have already received your ticket, you can apply for a refund at JR Tokai, JR West, or JR Kyushu stations where ticket offices are located within one year from the day after the boarding date.
For the “EX Travel Pack,” reservations made between Tokyo and Kagoshima-Chuo stations up to and including August 15 can be cancelled from “My Page” without charge as long as the cancellation is made before the outbound train departs from the boarding station. Changes can be made until the reserved train departs from the boarding station. Even for products that are marked “cannot be changed,” such as “Platte Kodama,” it is possible to change the train.
In addition, some tickets (tickets with “企”, “契”, “替”, “定”, etc. on the ticket) may not be refundable at the station, and the company asks customers to contact the travel agency where they purchased the ticket.
Kinki Nippon Railway Co. also offers no-fee refunds. Holders of eligible tickets who have decided not to use the tickets in advance can get refunds at Kintetsu’s limited express ticket sales counters. The following tickets are eligible for refunds, including those purchased through the online reservation and sale service.
Outbound or inbound travel includes validity period from August 9 to 15.
