Posted on 2024-08-212024-10-04 by Editor in Chief

What is AFICAT?

The Japan-Africa Agricultural Innovation Center for Agriculture (AFICAT) aims to promote the introduction of advanced Japanese technology and agricultural mechanization in Sub-Saharan Africa, and was proposed at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) in August 2019.

JICA has conducted the “Information Collection and Confirmation Study on the Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization through the Introduction of Advanced Agricultural Technology in Sub-Saharan Africa” for about two years since February 2022, and has conducted pilot activities in five countries (Tanzania, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya) toward the full-scale operation of AFICAT In February 2024, we started the “Information Collection and Verification Study on the Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization through the Introduction of Advanced Agricultural Technology in Sub-Saharan Africa” and have been promoting AFICAT activities together with JICA experts dispatched to each country and JICA field offices.

In July 2024, we held an information exchange meeting in Kenya to introduce the challenges and needs of agricultural mechanization in Kenya, as well as the policies and investment environment for agricultural investment promotion and the potential for Japanese companies to enter the agricultural sector in Kenya. In July 2024, we held a meeting in Kenya to present and exchange opinions on the challenges and needs for agricultural mechanization in Kenya, agricultural investment promotion policies and investment environment, and the potential for Japanese companies to enter the Kenyan market. We are pleased to announce the second information exchange meeting on the theme of Nigeria. This is a valuable opportunity to exchange information on mechanization of agriculture and business environment in Nigeria, which is rich in natural resources and has the largest population in Africa, with government officials and members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We look forward to your active participation.
