On July 26, the onsen ryokan Washintei Toyotsuki (90 Motohakone, Hakone-cho, Ashigarashita-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture) reopened after undergoing a large-scale renovation in stages to commemorate its 30th anniversary.
Located next to the east side of Hakone Shrine and overlooking Lake Ashi, the first phase of the hotel’s renovation in February 2023 included the remodeling of six of the 16 guest rooms to include a half-rotemburo (open-air bath). In addition, all guest rooms have been redesigned, including Japanese-style rooms that make the most of the sukiya-style architecture, modern Japanese and Western-style rooms that focus on bedding, and concept rooms that tickle the hearts of children.
In the second phase completed this time, the large bathroom and private room ryokan (Japanese-style restaurant) were completely renewed. The indoor baths in the large bathrooms have been redesigned with modern tiles, and light shining through from the Hakone mountain range creates a bright, three-dimensional space. Refa” products will be used for showers in the washing area. The open-air bath “Fugetsu no Yu” has also been reborn as a modern tile bath instead of the conventional rock bath.
Ryotei Mukozuki, a restaurant that has insisted on private dining rooms since its opening, has changed 8 of its 12 rooms to dining table settings and 4 rooms to sunken kotatsu settings, improving the Japanese style and comfort. Each private room is named after a Hakone flower orchid, such as “yamaboshi,” “hydrangea,” or “sakura,” and the rooms are decorated with modern tiles representing these colors.
In the second phase of renewal, some rooms have been further upgraded with the addition of Lloyd’s Room chairs (woven paper furniture).
