The forum featured panel discussions and presentations by Japanese and Mongolian companies and organizations on topics such as export promotion, trade and investment promotion, SDGs business, ICT and digital industry promotion, and innovation between the two countries.

Opening remarks were made by Mr. Ken Ikawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan, Mr. Banzragchi Bayarsaikhan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan, and Mr. Khosbayar Lulai, First Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar.
After the opening remarks by the guests and organizers, the Business and Innovation Development Department of Ulaanbaatar City and Gotanda Valley General Incorporated Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an IT consortium to promote cooperation between Japanese and Mongolian IT companies, including startups.

In the organizer’s speech, Mr. Shinichi Tanaka, Director of JICA Mongolia Office, gave a presentation titled “JICA’s Efforts in Mongolia” on 1) Pillars of Cooperation and Representative Projects in Mongolia, 2) Private Sector and ICT Industry Promotion, 3) “SME and SDGs Business Support Project”, 4) “Grassroots Technical Cooperation Project”, etc. The presentation was made by Mr. K. K. Krishnamoorthy.

In the latter half of this forum, at the “Mongolia Open Innovation and Co-Creation for SDGs (MICS) 20241” organized by JICA, after the kick-off event in Ulaanbaatar on June 11 and the Tokyo event on August 5, 15 Mongolian and Japanese The 15 candidate collaborative projects were formed from companies including start-ups, educational and research institutions, NGOs, public hospitals, and other organizations from Mongolia and Japan, and the parties involved in the selected 15 collaborative projects made pitches in front of business people from Japan and Mongolia, and 10 collaborative projects were finally selected. JICA plans to support these 10 collaborative projects to create new networks between the two countries and promote “co-creation” and “innovation” in concrete ways (see here for details).
Approximately 100 people from Japan and 400 people from Mongolia attended the Forum, and a total of 25 companies from both Japan and Mongolia reported on the content of the Forum, indicating the high level of attention paid to the Forum.

Furthermore, in conjunction with the Forum, JICA, in cooperation with JETRO (host) and JAXA (co-host), organized the Mongolia Innovation Mission from August 19 to 21, where about 15 Japanese companies/organizations visited the Forum.
We received many positive comments from participants to this forum, such as “The discussions were more in-depth than at other events I have attended in the past, and it was a good opportunity to learn more about both countries,” and “This forum gave us an opportunity to enter the global market, including Japan.
