Downtown General Store I was talking with an acquaintance I bumped into at an event and asked her what she bought. I was talking with a friend of mine who I bumped into at the event and asked her what she bought, and she told me about these kitchen towels. The towels are called “Flower Sack Towels” and are made from reused flour sacks. The company was founded in 1980 by Penny and Les, who were born and raised in the sugar cane fields of the Big Island of Hawaii, and their family designs, prints, and sews their towels. The towels are soft, extremely comfortable, and highly absorbent, drying faster than regular kitchen towels and leaving dishes and glassware sparkling clean. I knew I had to buy one when I heard that it “makes working in the kitchen a pleasure.” I’m looking forward to using it now, and I bought some as souvenirs back home; they were $9 a piece, but they usually sell for about $10. They don’t have a store, but you can buy them at Foodland Farms in Ala Moana or Complete Kitchen at the Kahala Mall.
Another nail item we came across was a nail sticker with a Hawaiian design. These nail stickers are decorated with Hawaiian-style designs, and are said to last 3-4 weeks by simply applying them to the nails and exposing them to a UV LED light for 60 seconds. They are also easy to remove. I get a lot of inspiration from Hawaii! I get a lot of inspiration from Hawaii! I think it is a nice idea to be able to enjoy nails done by local designers easily and inexpensively. UV LED lights were sold for $12, but I could have used the ones sold at 3COINS in Japan for 330 yen, which would have been fine. They are sold at Na Mea Hawaii in Ward Village and other stores.
